    Understanding the problem

    The DPF tells us where to look. It doesn't automatically tell us what to do.

    Warning lights, reduced power and rough running all give us clues about where to start. The next step comes from understanding what's actually happening. Sometimes that means a clean, regeneration or repair.

    A regeneration, a clean or repair might be exactly what the vehicle needs, but if the problem keeps returning, repeating the same thing can put you straight back where you started.

    When you've already paid to fix a DPF problem, seeing the warning again can leave you wondering what to try next. Here's what happened when these owners spoke to us.

    We went through the history, the symptoms and what had already been tried, then explained what we'd need to check before recommending anything. Joe booked in for the full emissions package to remove DPF, EGR, AdBlue for £960 because his short journeys were causing expensive issues.

    When it isn't straightforward

    The job you asked for isn't always the job the vehicle needs.

    Most DPF enquiries begin with a simple request. Sometimes the answer is straightforward. Other times, the checks uncover another fault, more than one problem or a reason why DPF work may not be the sensible next step.

    A leaking boost pipe, faulty sensor, injector problem or another fault elsewhere in the engine may need repairing before any DPF work goes ahead.
