Some diesels run a separate additive system for the particulate filter. It has its own tank, its own pump and its own faults, and it has nothing to do with AdBlue. We've attended vehicles booked in as "AdBlue problems" where the fault belonged to that separate system entirely. Another reason to read the vehicle before replacing anything.

We went out to a Mercedes Atego motorhome that was having AdBlue trouble linked to a NOx sensor fault, and completed an £800 Stage 1, EGR and AdBlue package.
A few weeks later, the customer contacted us to say the NOx sensor fault had not returned, but the vehicle was still using AdBlue and the "Top up AdBlue" message was still appearing. A couple of hours later we worked out what had been missed and arranged to go back.
This was our first time working on this particular commercial truck system. We knew the engine module needed programming, but we hadn't identified that the separate AdBlue module needed programming as well. The engine module stopped flagging the NOx faults; the AdBlue module carried on injecting.
By the time we arrived, the customer had decided he wanted the vehicle returned to its original setup instead. We listened, respected his decision and agreed a financial resolution.
